I haven't seen the movie yet, but from all the reviews I've read, it's not just enough to see the movie in 3D, but you need to see it at an IMAX in 3D.

There was a post the other day that the studio wasn't worried about piracy and I think they believe that anyone watching a pirated copy on a PC or TV will feel the need to watch it on a big screen, or a really big screen, in 3D.

Very few movies have that kind of draw.

Trust me. Avatar in IMAX 3D is completely worth an hour wait in a cold (slightly snowy) morning.

Totally agreed, didn't James Cameron take around 9 years of just planning this movie?

Does that mean the movie sucks?
Script: OK
Plot: OK (very unoriginal)
Graphics: AMAZING 5 STARS!!

Total: 3/5 STARS
IMAX Total: 4.5/5 STARS
You must see it in IMAX (3D is optional) to truly apreciate the visuals.

what is wrong with people these days, if a movie looks realistic or has neat-o special effects, suddenly the movie is awesome.

well, god *censored*, sci fi was, for over 15 years, plastic models hanging from string, if people managed to enjoy that, it makes one think...

oh...

wait for it...

the graphics/visuals aren't important! It's the bloody show or movie itself, the character interaction, the god *censored* STORY it's trying to tell, not how many polygons it took to render the story. Personally I'm sick of seeing the same *censored* movie replayed over and over and over with different themes... or even better, the same *censored* movie but with new actors and *GASP* CG graphics! It doesn't matter that the story was regarded as pithy in the 70's when the original was made, I mean, for chrissakes, LOOK AT ALL THOSE POLYGONS! the particle effects! The explosions! This isn't no cheap sugar glass explosion effect, nope, this is super expensive super computer stuff, sure, it looks nearly the same, but it COST way more, and therefore I conclude that it is better </sarcasm>

I'm also sick of playing Ocarina of Time over and over again with every new zelda game... I had a long rant here about that but I think that that serves it's purpose well enough.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

The true social commentary here is that a movie that cost billions is being compared to a cell phone...

BTW ...i thought it sucked.

Well, it seems to be getting a lot of favorable reviews by viewers: http://www.fandango.com/movies/1/moviefanreviews.aspx?mid=103067&pn=6

I haven't seen it yet but was thinking of going soon.

If you apreciate a movie, more for its plot than its visuals, then you will not enjoy Avatar.

Eh, that's not what many of the fan reviews say. Did you visit the link I posted and read them?

That was my review. And after reading page 6 (the link you gave me) others agree. The plot and script were weak. Sure it was great, but it wouldn't be worth the wait again.

If you only looked at one page of reviews, you got a distorted view.  A big majority of the reviews are positive.

My review was very positive. Because I like the visuals a lot. Some people value plot and script more than visuals. And THEY would have a less than positive review.
