    A friend has an obsolete key which keeps appearing in a registry scan

    Google brings up a lot of entrys regarding

    There is a hijack entry log which refers to "14919EA49A8F3B4AA3CF1058D9A64CEC@p0 C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Pro\"
    sinc ehe is using daemon.

    but what is 14919ea49a8f3b4aa3cf1058d9a64cec

    If you look at a hijackthis log http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=31924 there are loads of this entry.

    That computer is seriously infected with rootkit(s), so you better continue right there.

    But, to answer the direct query, "14919ea49a8f3b4aa3cf1058d9a64cec" is a 128-bit GUID.

    I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

      sptd is DAEMON Tools driver, so that numeric entry is part of it. No mystery here.
