what is the problem with my connection
    « on: February 11, 2010, 09:32:41 AM »
    hi everyone,

my internet connection is very slow. I don't know why.

when I ping test it with pingtest.net

it told there is 96 % packets loss and gave a grade "F".

is there any problem with my ISP?

    thanks in advance.

how long has this been happening? which ISP are you with? do you have a wired connection (phoneline/isdn/cable modem) or a wireless connection (roof mounted antenna or satellite connection). Try running tracert in a command prompt window (type tracert www.google.com) and see where the connection is timing out or failing.

Power on the computer and tap the F8 key until you come to Advanced Boot Options

      Select Safe Mode with Networking

When it boots up, take one of your browsers for a spin and see if it is any better..

        1.  Ipconfig.   From a Command Prompt window first use "ipconfig" command to get IPv4 address of default gateway.

To access Command Prompt window:  Start -> Run -> type "cmd" without quotes and hit <Enter> key.

Is this the address of your local home router or that of the ISP?

        2.  Ping.  From a Command Prompt window try the following "ping" commands:
             a.  ping -n 10 -w 2000 <your_default_gateway_IPv4_address>
                  (1)  What is the "percent" packet loss?
                  (2)  What is the "average" round trip time in milli-seconds?
                  (3)  What are the error message(s) if any?

             b.  ping -n 10 -w 2000 69.72.169.241
                  (1)  What is the "percent" packet loss?
                  (2)  What is the "average" round trip time in milli-seconds?
                  (3)  What are the error message(s) if any?

             c.  ping -n 10 -w 2000 www.computerhope.com
                  (1)  What is the "percent" packet loss?
                  (2)  What is the "average" round trip time in milli-seconds?
                  (3)  What are the error message(s) if any?

        Have you contacted your ISP?
