As video technology progresses and changes, so do the connection types. With the increasing number of connection options (VGA, HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort, USB-C), the need for adapters increased. For example, if your monitor only has an HDMI input and your video card only supports DVI. In this case, you would need a DVI to HDMI adapter. These may be acquired from online retailers such as Amazon and Newegg.

While HDMI can carry an audio signal, DVI cannot. So, if you're utilizing an adapter, you will not be able to transmit sound.
