Although each Microsoft Windows version has a different name for the network icon, this page applies to the missing icons below.

  • Network Neighborhood
  • My Network Places
  • Dial-Up Networking

Restoring a missing desktop network icon

  1. Right-click the desktop and click Properties.
  2. In the Display Properties window, click the Desktop tab.
  3. Click the Customize Desktop button.
  4. Check the My Network Places check box and click OK.

or

  1. Open TweakUI.
  2. In TweakUI open the Desktop tab category.
  3. Under Desktop, check the check box for the network icon you want to show on the desktop.
  4. Once checked, close out of TweakUI and reboot the computer.
