Why does defrag lock up at 10%?

With some hard drives, it can take extra time at or around the 10% mark during the defragmentation process. Some taking five minutes or longer. This behavior, albeit misleading, is considered normal as long your CPU (central processing unit) continues to work. You can tell if you CPU is still working by checking whether or not the indicator light on the front of your computer is blinking.
