The process of downloading a song or small sound clips over the Internet depends on the website or application you use to download the song. Each website, like Amazon.com, or application, like iTunes, uses its own utility and process for downloading a song. To proceed, select the service from which you want to download music, and then follow the instructions.

How to download an MP3

Some sites offer an MP3 download link similar to the example below. You can save the MP3 by right-clicking the link and choosing the option to Save link as, Save target as, or the Save linked content as a link. Once the file is saved, it appears in your downloads folder.

Example of an MP3 download.

Note

Most browsers opens the MP3 if you click the link. Although you're downloading the MP3 to listen to the file, it isn't stored in an easy to access location. If you right-click the file and save the link, you can choose where you want to save the MP3 file and open it with any media program capable of playing MP3 files.

Tip

In Google Chrome and Opera, click the link and in the player click the down arrow to download the file from the player.

How to download from Amazon.com

The Amazon.com website offers two options for downloading a song:

  • Download to computer - download a song to the user's computer through a download utility, which is installed on the computer.
  • Upload to Amazon Cloud account - uploads a song to the user's Amazon Cloud account, where the song can be accessed from any computer.

With either option, you must purchase the song first, then download to their computer or upload to their cloud account. Instructions for each option are provided on the Amazon.com website after the purchase is completed.
