Alt+W is a shortcut key most often used to open the View tab in the Office programs with the Ribbon.

How to use the Alt+W shortcut key

To use the keyboard shortcut Alt+W, press and hold either Alt key on the keyboard and while continuing to hold, press the "W" key with the same hand or the other hand.

Alt+W in Microsoft Excel

In Microsoft Excel, pressing Alt+W opens the View tab in the Ribbon. Once in the View tab after pressing the shortcut, you'll also have the option to press an additional key to select an option in the View tab. For example, after pressing Alt+W if you press "P," it would open the Page Layout view of the spreadsheet.

Note

If you're editing the contents of a cell and press Alt+W, nothing will happen.

Alt+W in Microsoft PowerPoint

In Microsoft PowerPoint, the Alt+W shortcut key opens the View tab in the Ribbon. Once in the View tab after pressing the shortcut, you'll also have the option to press an additional key to select an option in the View tab. For example, after pressing Alt+W if you press "I," it would open the Slide Sorter view of the presentation.

Alt+W in Microsoft Word

In Microsoft Word, pressing Alt+W opens the View tab in the Ribbon. Once in the View tab after pressing the shortcut, you'll also have the option to press an additional key to select an option in the View tab. For example, after pressing Alt+W if you press "U," it would open the Outline view of the document.
