ASR may refer to any of the following:

automated system recovery

1. Short for automated system recovery, ASR is a feature first found in Microsoft Windows XP that helps backup your system. To start the ASR, open the Windows backup utility by following the steps below.

  1. Click Start and then Accessories.
  2. Click System Tools.
  3. Click Backup.
  4. In the Backup utility, click the option to show Advanced Mode.
  5. Click the Automated System Recovery Wizard button.

When running the Wizard, you must insert a floppy diskette into the computer to back up the recovery files.

2. ASR is also short for automatic speech recognition.

3. With TTY (teletype), ASR is short for automatic send and receive.
