AVC

Short for Advanced Video Coding, AVC is a file format for storing videos. AVC files share many characteristics with MP4 video files, including the ability to store audio, and similar optimization and compression methods. For these reasons, AVC files are often classified in the same family as an MP4.
The AVC specification was designed and developed starting in 1998, with official approval completed in 2003. It is sometimes called H.264 and is a common video encoding format used for Blu-ray discs.
