Alternatively called Cmd+T, Command+T is a keyboard shortcut most commonly used to open a new tab in an Internet browser. Below are other programs that use this keyboard shortcut and related information.

How to use the Command+T keyboard shortcut

To use this keyboard shortcut, press and hold either Command key, and while continuing to hold, press T.

Command+T in macOS

In Apple's macOS, pressing Command+T opens the Recents folder.

Command+T in an Internet browser

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari), pressing Command+T opens a new tab.

Command+T in Excel and other spreadsheet programs

In Microsoft Excel, pressing Command+T opens the Create Table dialog box. However, if you're working in a cell, it toggles the formula reference type between absolute, relative, and mixed.

Note

If you're currently working within a cell, you'll need to finish your edits before this keyboard shortcut opens the table dialog box.

Command+T in Microsoft PowerPoint

In Microsoft PowerPoint, the Command+T keyboard shortcut opens the Format Text dialog box, which lets you adjust the font size, style, and type.

Note

The Command+Shift+F keyboard shortcut also opens the font options window.

Command+T in Word and other word processors

In Microsoft Word and other word processors, pressing Command+T creates a hanging indent.
