Alternatively referred to as Control P and C-p, Ctrl+P is a shortcut key most often used to print a document or page.

Tip

On Apple computers, the shortcut to print may also be the Command key+P keys.

How to use the Ctrl+P shortcut key

To use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P, press and hold either Ctrl key on the keyboard and while continuing to hold, press the "P" key with the same hand or the other hand.

Note

On Apple computer keyboards, the Ctrl key is labeled as "control."

Ctrl+P in an Internet browser

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera), pressing Ctrl+P opens the print window for the current page. For example, if you pressed Ctrl+P now, it displays a print preview of this page.

Tip

Many browsers now also give you the option to save the print preview as a PDF in the print window.

Ctrl+P in Excel and other spreadsheet programs

In Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet programs, pressing Ctrl+P opens the print preview window.

Ctrl+P in Microsoft PowerPoint

In Microsoft PowerPoint, the Ctrl+P shortcut key has the following functions, depending on the view.

  1. In the Normal view, open the Print page to view the print preview and print the slide deck. Like Ctrl+Shift+F12.
  2. In the Slide Show view, change the normal cursor to the pen tool. Click and hold the mouse button to use the pen tool and draw on the screen.

Ctrl+P in Word and other word processors

In Microsoft Word and other word processor programs, pressing Ctrl+P opens the print preview window.
