Ring doorbell camera

A doorbell camera is a device similar to a traditional doorbell but, as one may assume, has a built-in camera. Doorbell cameras allow homeowners to view who is at their door remotely from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. This device shows the user live streaming footage from in front of the equipment and can record audio and video. Doorbell cameras also allow for a 2-way conversation before opening the door to help prevent an intruder from entering the house.

The most notable doorbell cameras are Amazon Ring and the Google Nest Hello Doorbell, each having several models available. Depending on the model, the usual options include 24-hour constant recording or a recording triggered by sensed motion.

Note

Amazon has shared Ring security camera footage they've collected with their cameras with police without warrants or owner consent.

Note

When installing a Ring doorbell camera, your camera is entered into their Neighbors service by default. This app allows you and your neighbors to capture and share footage from your Ring cameras. While well intentioned, this app can increase some people's paranoia and sense of security because they see how much is happening in their area.
