Gaikai: a Sony Computer Entertainment company.

Gaikai was a cloud gaming service founded in November 2008 and launched on February 27, 2011. The name "Gaikai" is the English pronunciation of the Chinese phrase 外海, which means "open sea."

Gakai users play select video game titles on their computer or gaming device, but the graphics processing and game logic are performed on a remote cloud server. The graphics and audio are sent in real-time to the client device, similar to watching streaming video through Twitch or Netflix.

On July 2, 2012, Gaikai was acquired by Sony Entertainment. In 2015, the Gaikai service was relaunched as PlayStation Now.
