Google Play is a website and app that gives users access to download and purchase apps, books, game, movies, music, and other content from Google for Android devices.

Google Play is the official app store for Android devices and allows anyone to download and install content for free or at cost. Purchasing content from Google Play can be done using a debit card, credit card, PayPal, or using Google Play gift cards.

How to access Google Play

To access Google Play on an Android smartphone (mobile device) or tablet, open the Play Store app icon on your device. To open Google Play on a Windows-enabled computer, go to https://play.google.com/store in your computer's Internet browser.

Tip

To download music or movies, you may want to use the Play Music or Play Movie app icon for faster access to this type of content.

Note

If you have an Apple iPhone or iPad, you cannot install any Android apps or other content from Google Play.

Google Play history

Google Play was released on March 6, 2012. Its predecessor, Android Market, had been released on October 22, 2008. Google integrated Android Market with Google Play, creating a single brand that also incorporated Google Music, Google eBookstore, and Android Movie.
