item may refer to any of the following:

1. In general, an item is an individual thing, among other things, that are part of a list or collection. For example, with the following HTML (hypertext markup language) bullet list, each bullet is an item of that list. In other words, "Two" is an item of the following list.

  • One
  • Two
  • Three
  • Four

2. In a computer game, an item describes anything found, worn, equipped, or otherwise used in a game. For example, while playing an MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game), your character may find a weapon that can be equipped. Once that item is equipped, your character appears with the weapon. Other items include clothing, armor, books, food, ingredients, potions, junk, etc., collected and used while playing the game. If items are not worn or used, they're stored in your character's inventory.

What are item types?

Games with items and gear all have a random chance of being dropped or awarded. Some items (especially armor and weapons) may be less likely to drop because they're rare. To help identify this rarity, some games assign each item to one of the following item types.

  • Common (text color: white or gray)
  • Magic (text color: blue)
  • Rare (text color: yellow)
  • Legendary (text color: orange)
  • Unique (text color: antique white or red)

With items, what is bind and bound?

In some games, an item may be bound to your character. For example, an item can be BOE (bind on equip) or BOP (bind on pickup) to make the item rarer or only obtainable after completing a task. See our bind term for further information on these terms.
