Mana

In computer gaming, magic or mana is an attribute of certain classes (e.g., healer or mage) that gives them the ability to cast magic abilities. For example, a player may have 100 mana and a spell that takes 10 mana. Casting that spell would subtract 10 mana from the mana bar (often a blue bar).

Depending on the game, the mana bar may slowly regenerate over time or only regenerate when the player rests or drinks. In online games, a player with mana may say OOM (out of mana) when they no longer have mana. Mentioning your mana status is especially important for a healer since they cannot heal other players unless they have mana.

What are other classes mana?

Other classes that do not use magic may have other names for the resources they use. For example, in the Blizzard game Diablo 4, below is each class and the type of resource they use.

  • Barbarian = Fury
  • Druid = Spirit
  • Necromancer = Essence
  • Rogue = Energy
  • Sorcerer = Mana
