Mashup
The term mashup may refer to any of the following:
1. The term mashup may refer to an application or website that offers content from numerous sources and combines it in one place. This provides one location where a user can get information without having to visit several sites. An example of a mashup is combining news feeds from news sites (e.g., AP, BBC, CNN, and ABC (Atanasoff-Berry Computer)) and making them all accessible on one page.
This type of application or website is sometimes called an aggregator.
2. A mashup is an artful or meaningful combination of disparate elements to create a new, unique object. In music, a mashup may combine two or more songs from different artists or musical styles. The goal of an artist who"mashes up" different music is to identify similar themes or structures in unrelated music, and combine them in a pleasing way. For example, the classical music of Ludwig van Beethoven and the rap music of the Notorious B.I.G. may be combined to create an unexpectedly musical mashup.
