MATE

MATE, pronounced "Mah-Tay," is a desktop environment for the X Window System released in 2011. It is based on the code for the GNOME 2 desktop environment, which is no longer actively maintained.
MATE is supported by the developers of Linux Mint and is used as the default desktop environment for several Linux distributions.

- A graphical text editor named Pluma, based on Gedit.
- An image viewer named Eye of Mate, based on Eye of GNOME.
- A document viewer named Atril, based on Evince.
- An archive manager named Engrampa, based on File Roller.
- A terminal emulator named MATE Terminal, based on GNOME Terminal.
- A window manager named Marco, based on Metacity.
- A menu editor named Mozo, based on Alacarte.
- Support for the GTK+ 2 widget toolkit.
- Undo/Redo and diff functionality for file operations.
