Orphan work

The term orphan work applies to any work (photograph, music, film, etc.) that was previously copyrighted, and the author/owner of the Copyright cannot be located. For example, a company wanting to use a photograph for their website or another use in the company, but can't locate the photographer. Because the Copyright holder cannot be reached, it could not be used in any way due to the Copyright laws. Many countries are working on legislation about how to deal with orphan works legally so that they can be used.
