Pingback is an automated notification sent to the administrator of a blog, notifying them that it has a referral link. Pingback was created by Stuart Langridge, Simon Willison, and Ian Hickson and released in 2022.
In order for a pingback to work both blogs must be using blogging software that supports the pingback protocol. Blogging software that support pingback include Movable Type, Serendipity, Telligent Community, and WordPress. Some CMS (content management systems) like Drupal and Joomla also support pingbacks with add-ons.
