Preview pane may refer to any of the following:

1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, the Preview pane is an optional feature that shows a preview of a highlighted file. For example, with the Preview Pane enabled, if an image were highlighted, it would be displayed in the Preview Pane. The option to disable and enable the Preview pane in Explorer is found in the Views button or View tab of Explorer.

Tip

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P to show and hide the Preview pane.

2. A Microsoft Outlook feature that lets users display an e-mail message and does not require each e-mail to be opened. Earlier versions of Microsoft Outlook required an additional add-on to enable this feature. However, with the introduction of Microsoft Outlook 2000, this feature came pre-installed. Below is an example of the Microsoft Outlook Preview Pane.
