Repost on Facebook

To repost is to share a social media post that another user uploaded. Reposting is done by screenshotting the post and reuploading it, or using a site's built-in repost feature. People commonly repost news articles, memes, viral videos, and other popular content on apps like Instagram and Facebook. Properly reposting someone's content can be mutually beneficial, as it can encourage collaboration and discussion between users.

Note

When reposting content from another user, it is courteous to ask permission. Always credit the OP (original poster) by tagging or mentioning their account on your post.

Why do people repost content?

Users may repost content for any number of reasons. Depending on the status of the post's creator and the reposter, the intention behind a repost could be:

  • Promoting a business or organization in which the reposter is involved
  • Showing support for an influencer or brand
  • Spreading awareness of current events
  • Providing commentary on politics
  • Sharing new music with their followers
  • Participating in giveaways that require you to repost the rules
  • Raising funds for crowdfunding campaigns
  • Congratulating friends or family members on life updates
  • Scamming users by impersonating a brand or celebrity
