run length limited encoding

Short for run-length limited encoding, RLL encoding is a method of storing data on a computer hard drive, floppy disk, CD (compact disc), DVD(digital versatile disc), and Blu-ray that IBM created. This storage method is carried out by hardware in the disk controller and is less prevalent than the MFM (modified frequency modulation) encoding scheme.

ARLL (Advanced Run-length Limited) is a more advanced version of RLL.
