Scala is a programming language introduced in 2003 that is object-oriented, strongly and statically-typed, and supportive of functional programming paradigms. Scala was created to address many criticisms of the Java programming language. As such, it has a syntax similar to Java and compiles to Java bytecode, but with several key differences inspired by languages, such as Scheme and Haskell.

Here is "Hello, World!" written in Scala:

object HelloWorld extends App {
 println("Hello, World!")
