second lifeThe Second Life is a three-dimensional online virtual world developed by Linden Lab where users utilize client software to interact with each other as customizable avatars. The founder of Second Life, Phillip Rosedale, originally planned to design a hardware setup that users could wear to immerse themselves in a virtual world. Eventually, the idea for a wearable device was discarded, but Second Life was released to the public as a computer program on June 23, 2003.

Features of Second Life include the ability for a user to create his or her own objects and scripted experiences, and fully retain any Copyright to the content they create.
