Serial may refer to any of the following:

1. Serial is transmitting information one bit at a time or sequentially (one after another). For example, a serial device like USB (universal serial bus) sends and receives data one bit at a time.


The opposite of a serial transmission is parallel transmission.

2. When describing a podcast, Serial is a popular podcast from the creators of This American Life, hosted by Sarah Koenig and released on October 3, 2014. Koenig says, "Serial is about the basics: love and death and justice and truth."
