Sextortion is a type of extortion where a victim's private data of a sexual nature is acquired illegally by another person. The criminal can then extort the victim for money, or other demands, under threat of making the photos or messages public somehow. On November 2, 2010, the FBI issued a press release indicating there were more than 200 reported incidents of sextortion, citing it as a serious issue in cybersecurity.
