How to use the Shift+spacebar keyboard shortcut

To use this keyboard shortcut, press and hold either Shift, and while continuing to hold, press the spacebar key.

Shift+spacebar in an Internet browser

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera), pressing Shift+spacebar scrolls up one full page at a time. This shortcut is especially helpful if you're using the spacebar to scroll down. If you scroll down too far, this shortcut can scroll back (up).

Shift+spacebar in Excel and other spreadsheet programs

In Microsoft Excel and all other spreadsheet programs, pressing Shift+spacebar highlights a row.

Tip

The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+spacebar selects the entire column containing the active cell.
