Spotify is an online audio and video streaming service. Users can watch videos, and listen to music and podcasts, using Spotify's desktop or mobile app. It can also be accessed with no downloads required from the Spotify Web Player on compatible Internet browsers.

Spotify launched in October 2008. It was developed and operated by Spotify AB, a Swedish company founded by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. It offers basic streaming services (with advertisements) for no cost. For a subscription fee, it offers higher quality streaming, offline viewing/listening, and other benefits. Spotify users can share songs, albums, and playlists with friends on Spotify and social media sites, such as Facebook.

In 2011, Spotify reported one million paying users in Europe. In 2016, it had 140 million active users.
