Announced in 2015, Starlink is a satellite-based Internet network developed by Elon Musk's aerospace company, SpaceX. The Starlink network will consist of tens of thousands of small proprietary satellites positioned in low Earth orbit. SpaceX plans to use these satellites to provide competitively priced Internet across the world, including regions with limited options or no Internet options.

In May 2019, SpaceX launched the first 60 Starlink satellites to low Earth orbit. As of September 2022, SpaceX has launched about 3,000 Starlink satellites, providing service to over 500,000 subscribers. Starlink Internet service is available in 40 countries, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Australia.

SpaceX's current plan is to launch 12,000 Starlink satellites, but it may increase that total to 42,000 in the future.
