Terabyte

Updated: 04/26/2017 by Computer Hope

tbA terabyte or TB, is equal to 1,099,511,627,776 (240) bytes. However, the IEC defines a TB equal to 1,000,000,000,000 (1012) bytes. Therefore, a TB could be equal to either of these values.

Tip: When the "b" is lowercase (Tb), this refers to a terabit.

What comes before a terabyte?

A gigabyte comes before a terabyte.

What comes after a terabyte?

A petabyte comes after a terabyte.

Terabit vs. other data measurements

Below is a listing of terabyte values where a terabyte is considered 1,000,000,000,000 (1012) bytes. See our Tebibyte (TiB) definition for a listing of gigabyte values where a terabyte is equal to 1,099,511,627,776 (240) bytes.
