Time Machine
Introduced in 2008, Time Machine is a feature included in the macOS that allows Mac users to restore their computer using backups. Time Machine performs backups of an entire hard drive or storage device, or the contents of specified locations, such as contacts, photos, music, and other files. Time Machine can be scheduled to run and create backups automatically on a routine schedule, and store the backups on the computer or on iCloud. Using the Time Machine Backups app, users can restore the computer to the stored backup if any existing files are corrupted or lost.
Time Machine features are accessed through the Time Machine app on macOS 10.5 or later. To restore a computer from the backups, use the Time Machine Backups app. Both programs are found in the Applications folder on the Dock.
