A trace may refer to any of the following:
1. In general, trace refers to the process of following anything from the beginning to the end. For example, the traceroute command follows each of the network hops as your computer connects to another computer.
2. An FTP command that enables and disables packet tracing. See how to use FTP for information about trace and other FTP commands.
3. When referring to a motherboard, the traces are another way of referring to the motherboard bus.
4. A trace is also a short way of saying circuit trace.
