Transcoding WAV to MP3 and vice versa.

The process of taking one encoding and converting it to another is called transcoding. It is used in instances where a certain format is not supported, or limited storage requires a reduction in file size. A good example is taking an MP3 file and converting it to WAV format. Transcoding is an analog-to-analog or digital-to-digital process that works with video and audio files, and the different character encodings.
