Updated: 09/12/2023 by Computer Hope

Windows file protection, or WFP, is a feature in Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 that protects critical system files, including DLL (dynamic-link library) files, from being overwritten by other programs. Protecting these system files helps minimize crashes due to altered system files.

Note

Windows file protection was previously known as "system file protection" in Windows Me.
