Windows file protection, or WFP, is a feature in Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 that protects critical system files, including DLL files, from being overwritten by other programs. Protecting these system files helps to minimize crashes due to system files having been altered.

Windows file protection was previous known as "system file protection" in Windows ME.
