Whois may refer to any of the following:

1. A command used on some chat networks, such as IRC. Whois enables a user to find out additional information about other users, such as their hostname, IP address, channels, and how long they have been online. For example, if the username was mrhope, you could type the command below to display information about that person.

/whois mrhope

2. A Linux and Unix command that enables a user to find additional information about a domain. See the whois command page for further information.

3. WHOIS is an Internet utility that shows the user additional information about a domain, the registrar of the domain, and the IP address.
