Short for Windows Management Instrumentation, WMI is an API (application programming interface) designed by Microsoft that allows the control of systems and devices in a network. Though it has many similar features to Intel's DMI (Desktop Management Interface), WMI utilizes additional Windows features and capabilities.

How to open WmiMgmt

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type wmimgmt.msc and press Enter.
Tip

If you are running Microsoft Windows Vista or 7, you can use the wmic command to display all WMI information through the command line.
