About RealPlayer

RealPlayer was one of the first widely available streaming audio players available over the Internet. Originally called RealAudio, the user had the capability of listening to live audio over the Internet without having to spend several hours downloading.

Due to the popularity of RealAudio, RealPlayer included the functionality of RealAudio, allowing the user to listen to streaming audio and also watch streaming video. Because of the high demands of audio and video, streaming video could have its problems on slower connections or during times of high Internet traffic. Watching a streaming video on a dial-up modem connection may experience these problems, including pauses in video playback. Using a DSL or cable modem connection should minimize or eliminate these playback issues.
