Disk controller

Printed circuitry containing the necessary instructions for disk drives. The disk controller is responsible for such drives as the hard drive, floppy disk drive, CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-Only Memory) drive, and any other drive. Today, most disk controllers are found on the motherboard and are either IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) or the newer SATA (Serial AT Attachment). More specialized controllers, such as a SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) use an interface expansion card.
