Top row keys
The top row keys are the ten keys found above the home row keys on a QWERTY US keyboard. The top row keys include the Q, W, E, R, and T keys for the left hand and Y, U, I, O, and P keys for the right hand. In the picture below, the hands are on the home row keys, and the top row keys are above the home row keys.
As you may have already noticed, the first six top row keys on a QWERTY keyboard are "QWERTY."
This row of keys is also sometimes called the first row.
The layout of a Dvorak keyboard is a bit different. The top row keys are the ?, <, >, P, and Y keys on the left side, and the F, G, C, R, and L keys on the right.
What are all of the keys on the top row of the keyboard?
Going from the left side of the keyboard to the right side of the keyboard, the top row has the following keys.
- Tab
- On a QWERTY keyboard, the letters Q, W, E, R, T, Y, U, I, O, and P
- The open curly bracket ({) and open square bracket ([)
- The close curly bracket (}) and close square bracket
- The pipe (|) and backslash (\) key
On some computer keyboards, the Enter key may also extend into the top row from the home row.
What are the rows above and below the top row keys?
The row above the top row keys is called the number row keys, and the row below is called the home row keys.
