LiveTech service
« on: November 11, 2010, 05:49:11 PM »
I found this article in PC Mag about this LiveTech service by Cyberdefender:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372447,00.asp

The article reviewed how it worked and it's features.

Now, I have had Cyberdefender antivirus, and it works good, and except for a pop-up telling me something was blocked, it just runs in the background and haven't had much virus issues since using it.

They have a 24 x7 help line which I used once and they helped with my questions.

This LiveTech service is different, because that they offer - for $239 – to 'give your computer an initial diagnostic and fix any problems found. Then any time you need tech help, day or night, you can call on them. They'll get your printer installed, clean up pesky malware problems, optimize your PC's performance, and more...'

For me, and maybe many of us on this forum, we can do this stuff ourselves.

What I would be willing to pay for is someone to deal with my Uncle Max, who is calling me every time he has a computer problem which is about once a month.

For $200, LiveTech might be a good solution and gift from him.

The article mention that the service is remote control, is that like 'Remote Access'?

Do you think it is secure?

Now, the article didn't test the service, so does anyone here have any experience with it?

Have micro, will wave...

Do not send them any cabbage...

All you need to do to protect yourself is to practice safe surfing and continue to be an active member here...
You can however send me the $249.00...

CyberDefender itself is listed in red by WOT: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/cyberdefender.com

PC Mag should be ashamed of itself.

I even registered there to post my comment, but I guess, they don't allow negative comments, because it won't let me post anything....LOL

Wouldn't it also sort of send the message "I'm tired of you calling me all the time. You annoy me so much I actually paid somebody to deal with you instead"?

At least, that's what I'm thinking.

Also, as has been noted, there is a red WOT rating, additionally, I'm quite certain I recall other posters here complaining about it, and that it was a scam,  but I may very well have gotten confused with another product. (if suddenly a random member or members appear out of nowhere and decry our comments as slander you can write the entire thing off as a scam though).

As an alternative that doesn't cost you anything, you could always show him this forum :P

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Hi, Thanx for all your input.

A couple of things.

Max already knows I am tired of his questions - and as a gift I am say to him that I care enough to pay for his own computer help line.

I looked at the WOT thing, and it looks like they are very confussed, with people thinking it is a scam, but the company is a real company. One of the wOT commenter posted this link which has lots of links about cyberdefender:

http://pusz4frog.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/cyberdefender-releases-their-edc-3-0-cyberdefender-antivirus-software-with-earlynetwork-technology-that-offers-customers-zero-day-gap-updates/

Again, I don't need it, but for a gift for someone how is non-technical, it could be good.

Also, I agree - PC MAG is not that relevant, but they do have helpful articles every now and then.

My site is a FREE option... There is a form to ask your questions to which I will reply and send you a response via email. Or you could just search the site. It is not exactly LIVE, but it's new so there is very little traffic at the moment. Meaning response times are short.

I hate to spam, but I thought this fit in with the convo and would help save people the fraudulent experience.

I hate to spam

So why did you do it? Like this site really loves advertising its rivals... At least we don't pimp out advertising space like yours does, and our knowledge base is a bit more extensive than yours, which I list in its entirety:

That's it.

Whoah! I was just going to send you $500.00, because, basically I am just a great big sap!  ::)

Ha. I deserve that. After posting it, I realized I couldn't delete it.

However, as far as the knowledge base... as I said, it's a new site.

As for being a rival... I am an electronic engineer, therefore my site is not just about answering questions in relation to computers.

But, for pc related questions... In cases where the work is already done (by someone else) I intend on linking them to answers that are already sufficient. So if it is answered best on ComputerHope.com, I will gladly link to it to avoid beating a dead horse. If I feel I can answer it better, then I'll write a tutorial or article on it... So far I have only been asked one question...

I sent a link to wikipedia to the person, and they asked for further detail... Hence the lack of content.
