    how to match an xp install cd to my desktop

    i have an 2 xp operating system cds. how do i match one of them to my computer? there are no stickers, no way to be sure which one i used to install my current version. i need to explore the cd and match something with my computer.what to look for on the cd and my computer. that will tell me? thank you

    What does it say on each of these CD's ? ?.....Does the XP PC boot properly ? ?

    This is false...XP CD's were bootable and did not require use of a 3rd party tool for them to work....

    Not sure what you mean by "match CD to computer".  The only thing you need to match is the version such as XP Pro or Home.  There is also 32-bit and 64-bit but 64-bit XP wasn't very widely used so dobt you need to worry about that.

    I believe what he's trying to match is the authentication #'s...

    At any rate it seems he's been abducted by aliens...above was just a Spammer Post reviving old news...

      Put the CD into a computer that has already booted up.
      I grabbed a MS XP upgrade disk that I had handy.
      Windows Explorer opens and you see what is on the CD.
      Note the title of the CD at the top of my attachment. Mine says WXHOCCP. The closest match is WXH_OCCP an XP upgrade disk from Compaq, which is what I have.
      Go here http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=226
      and look at the volume label column. From the letters, you can tell what XP CD you have.
