Is there any way to expand this bar to two rows of bookmarks?

Yes, both Chrome and Firefox can do that. Just Google it.
Before you do that, you can shorten the names on the bar to just atwo letter names and get a lot more on the bar.  Also, you can make a menu on the bar that opens to a list of bookmarks.
