Error 1603 when trying to install a program
    « on: October 20, 2016, 12:41:00 PM »
I have just started using Windows 10, so a newbie at this.
I am trying to install Family Tree Maker 2009 from a CD. It ran fine on Windows 7 and on Vista but on Windows 10 it installs about one third then come up with a box saying,

    "Family Tree Maker 2009 Error
X Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)
    OK"

    Which means nothing to me.

Right clicking on EXE file did not bring up properties.
On clicking "OK" a box comes up saying:

    "Feature transfer error
Error - 1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows installer help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

I tried downloading the Microsoft tool supposed to fix this. It did not. Any helpful suggestions please? Have I had a senior moment and missed something?  ???

I don't think it is related to the OS being used. Google results show users having the same issue with the latest release on various Windows versions, including Windows 10. It seems like very poorly written software.

It might work if you right-click the shortcut/program and run it as administrator.
