Edit a text file
« on: November 29, 2016, 09:00:20 AM »
Hi All,
I get a txt file once a week. The file uses a delimiter of a pipe. ( | ) Something has changed for some reason. The vendor has now started to use a broken delimiter. I can't create it but it looks like a pipe that is broken in the middle. So you have 2 small vertical lines

Anyway I take the file and import it into the database. It can no longer read the line end so the file doesn't import. I have talked to the vendor and they are working on a fix. I had hoped that someone here might have a idea for a fix.

Thanks

I found a free nagware program called edit pad lite. I did the job on a 6000 text file in less then a second. I'm a happy camper...

Thanks

The normal pipe | is ASCII 124 (decimal), that new char sounds like ASCII 221 ¦

Wouldn't Notepad do the replace?

Yes, I know... I am a big SciTE fan for those times when you need a cool editor. (In fact it is my main editor.)

So, exactly how did you use Edit Pad Lite to fix the data file so that it can be imported into your database.  Did you replace the "pipe" delimiters with a delimiter that the database recognizes?
