BSOD but wont allow me to restore
    « on: September 26, 2010, 01:08:08 PM »
    The BSOD says "unmountable_boot_volume"

I am so lost. I have tried using the cd and pressing r. It then prompts me to either
    1. Run the 32 bit Dell Diagnostics
    Q. Quit without any action (Return to DOS)

I did the first option and nothing worked.
I have also done Q.  This gives me

Your CD/DVD drive during this boot cycle f::
A RAMDISK drive is available for this boot cycle as c::
It contains several Hard Drive setup tools. Please use these tools only under the direction of Dell Support Staff.

    F:\>

from this point I have tried putting in : chkdsk/p , chkdsk /b, chkdsk /r and  fixboot. Nothing has worked. Please help..........

Boot to your XP Cd and choose the first repair option (this will take you to the recovery console). Once there, run chkdsk /r

I am using the CD. I went to the link you provided and followed the steps, but I get stuck at the chkdsk/r part because when I put that it says Invalid Command Line Parameter Specified.

Are you actually getting to a command prompt that says c:\Windows ? And are you putting a space between chkdsk and the forward slash?

I don't understand what you're talking about. If you follow the instructions in the link I sent you to, you will end up in the recovery console and you will have a c: prompt in the Windows folder. Are you booting to an XP CD?

The CD says Drivers and Utilities- For reinstalling Dell Inspiron and XPS System Software.

In every post above I said to boot to your XP CD. If you didn't have one you needed to say so.

Either borrow an XP CD and follow the instructions above or go to this link and download the recovery console .iso file. Then burn the file to a CD and boot to that cd.
