    Web Server Setup
    « on: December 07, 2015, 04:03:05 PM »
I have a small Web Server in place for one of the places that I work at.  I have IIS installed and most of the updates installed.  I can run a page from the machine but, I don't know how too get it too where people can enter the address and connect too the page.  I do know that I will probably have too declare a IP and set on the Router not too issue the IP to the rest of the network.

Assuming you have a standard set up from most ISPs you would need to go into your Router and create a port forwarding from your public IP address to the internal IP of the server for port 80 (and 443 if you want HTTPS).  You should then be able to access the server externally by using your public IP address.

To then make a domain name work you would need to add an A record into its DNS that points to your public IP address.

I went into the test router and forwarded port 80.  I tried too enter the IP in another computer on the network too see if Index would appear and it is not finding it.

If you are getting a 404 error then you are clearly talking to some webserver somewhere, sounds like an issue with your IIS setup to me.

Then I'd suggest you read up on how to configure IIS, its your job, you should know how what you are meant to be setting up works.

If you can update it, yes, but you will still need to learn how to configure IIS...

It's not letting me update too IIS 7, says that it isn't need and should run the installed version through Mangement
