    Slow Browser, Crashing etc.
    « on: September 17, 2016, 01:03:04 AM »
I had this on another thread and it was not answered, I hope someone can help.
    Quote

I keep getting a message "a web browser is slowing your machine down"
    - what would cause this -

This error has come up again,  - also the shockwave (flash) keeps appearing.

I am using Firefox,  refreshed it today and the problem is still coming up.

The only game I play is Angry Birds Friends (apart from the Microsoft games built into W7) - tho it happens anywhere.

Hello ... Is this the same computer that you have had troubles with all summer? I looked at your posts and you had some malware on a system and thinking this might be same system maybe... http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=142539

SuperDave, I've done about 5 scans so far and there have been threats each time, which I have removed, and later deleted.

Here is the 2nd scan and about the 5th scan.  What do you think?

I'd back up your data to external device and perform a clean installation on this system to wipe it clean and start fresh. A system that has been band-aided will sometimes have scars that remain and those scars affect performance.

Here is your other thread you had on this subject for others to have quick reference to: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,158018.msg952432.html#msg952432

Yes it is the same computer but I've already had someone re-instal everything for me.

I felt it was something to do with Java or Adobe.

Could you look at these and tell me what you think?   Should some of the items be disabled, activated or .....

No Malware - just the continual "a web browser is slowing your machine down"

I meant I have just checked with Maywarebytes and there is no malware.

The browser displays the message  "a web browser is slowing your machine down.  What would you like to do" and believe me the browser DOES slow down.

You really need to make sure it is NOT malware.

I can find no reference to the "a web browser is slowing your machine down" message anywhere. In fact the only hit on google is this thread.

Any chance of a screenshot of this message?

My apologies, I got it wrong - it was a web window not a web browser

I have not attempted the suggestions in the Viral Removal Forum at this stage.

                https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18900/consumer-antivirus-software-providers-for-windows
Some have free versions. Others other trail versions. Too many choices. But you must make a choice. If you really can not choose, try:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

                    Is the problem still there?

I am also having this problem with almost every web site I go to - including Firefox. Starting in safe mode is not an option for me.

This is a recent issue. Does Firefox need to change its programming?

I'm about to change to a new browser since this slows my work to an intolerable level.

Safe Mode  is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off
hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables
add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away,
that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

                    Judy,
It is a good idea to have more than one browser at hand.
                     Internet Explorer
                     Chrome
                     Safari

                          Here is a long list:
                          https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18900/consumer-antivirus-software-providers-for-windows
Some have free versions. Others other trail versions. Too many choices. But you must make a choice. If you really can not choose, try:
                          Microsoft Security Essentials
Is it any true that Microsoft Security Essentials rank last in the list of anti-virus software? As in it lacks the complexity to detect smart trojans and malwares. Any true?

Here is some background about MSE:
                          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Security_Essentials
Notice that some big guys were critical of MSE because it gave users another choice in a field they thought overcrowded.

So you might expect that Microsoft would not make the free tool very powerful or impressive. However, it does do a good job  keeping out malware.
Right now I have it on my Windows XP machine. Works for me.  :)
