    Windows Freezes after Startup
    « on: November 04, 2016, 07:42:31 PM »
Recently, my friend's old computer running Win XP is encountering problem that causes Windows to freeze after startup. It's not responding to any mouse or keyboard input. The mouse and keyboard are both tested working on other system, and other mouse and keyboard are also tested on this system and it doesn't work either.

It happens like 9 out of 10 times starting the computer. During the "lucky" one time when it works, it works normally, except with error messages (Error signature) like these after startup:

    BCCode : c0000218    BCP1 : E1989490    BCP2 : 00000000    BCP3 : 00000000
    BCP4 : 00000000    OSVer : 5_1_2600   SP : 3_0    Product : 256_1

    or

    BCCode : c0000218    BCP1 : E1A1AFD8    BCP2 : 00000000    BCP3 : 00000000
    BCP4 : 00000000    OSVer : 5_1_2600   SP : 3_0    Product : 256_1

Despite error message like above, it will works normally. But other times, no error message, no response.

    Check this page out: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/156640

Basically your registry seems to be corrupted. Windows is not able to load a registry hive (or a few). You could try reinstalling Windows over the previous setup (so you don't lose most of your settings), or you could reinstall Windows completely (IE: format/reinstall) (backup your files first).

If you google the code and come across "Reimage Repair", DO NOT USE IT. It seems to be a malware program from everything I've read so far.

Also, try to find out what caused the problem in the first place (failing hard drive, etc..), to prevent the problem in the future..

(I know this post has been sitting here for a month, but it was unanswered, so why not..)
If at first you don't succeed, try it 1000 other ways..
